The History of Esosli

The first European Students Of Sign Language Interpreting conference was organised by a group of students from Zwickau, Germany in 2012. For their semester project their idea was to invite Sign Language students from all over Europe, rather than only Germany.

For four days students learned about sign language programs in other countries, shared knowledge and experience, discussed important topics, and took part in workshops.

With around 350 students attending it was a great success.

Six Dutch students were so enthusiastic that they attended the “The future of ESOSLI” workshop and decided to host the next ESOSLI two years later.

In 2014, Dianne, Samantha, Wieteke, and Renée organised the second ESOSLI conference in Utrecht, Netherlands.

With lectures and workshops based on the motto "Working Together" they created an unforgettable conference.

Before even arriving in Utrecht, a group of Finnish students decided to host the next ESOSLI.

So, in 2016 the team of Emilia, Teemu, Anniina and Annika planned the event in Helsinki, Finland. Their theme was "The Future".

Camilla, a Danish student, then decided to bring the conference to Denmark.

Mia and Melissa, two first year students, who had never attended ESOSLI before, joined Camilla to host the 2018 event in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Their hard work and dedication impressed a group of second semester students from Germany so much, that they decided they would host the next ESOSLI.

So here we are, eight years later,

back in Zwickau, Germany where it all began.
